Despite supporting Geert Wilder's release of the Dutch MP's controversial anti-Islamic film 'Fitna', Mohammed cartoonist Kurt Westergaard is suing the politician for illegally using his drawing in the film.
Westergaard has expressed concerns about his drawing - illustrating the prophet Mohammed in a bomb-topped turban - being used without his consent and is now actively trying to stop the practice. He recently prevented the anti-Islamic organisation Stop Islamisation of Denmark from using the drawing in one of the group's demonstrations.
In Wilders' film, Westergaard's drawing is shown at the beginning of the movie and also at the end, where the camera zooms in on the bomb.
Earlier this month, Westergaard staunchly endorsed the showing of Wilders' film, telling his employer, Jyllands-Posten newspaper, that he did not understand why Dutch politicians would seek to hinder its public release and that it was something 'Muslims must accept'.
But Westergaard's support did not include the unauthorized use of his drawing, which he said was originally created to be used in the particular context of the newspaper article.
