Erotic comedies from the 1970s featuring some of Denmark's top film names are a hit with movie buyers DVD editions of Danish erotic comedies from the 1970s are hitting it big with video customers, according to Scanbox, which owns the...
Scanbox recently reissued some of the films as box set DVD editions and said they are selling 10 times as well as 70s movies from other genres. The films star some of the country's biggest names such as Dirch Passer, Poul Bundgaard and Ole Søltoft.
Film critic Lars Gorzelak Pedersen said he understands why the movies are so popular - just as they were when they sold out theatres 30-odd years ago.
'The movies are edifying because they depict sex as something that pervades many of the things we do,' said Pedersen. 'The message is simple: sex is good for us and sexually progressive people are happy people.'
Kirsten Norholt, who appeared in a few of the erotic comedies back then, admitted the movies were not intended to be works of art.
'But they are filled with fun and enjoyment,' she said. 'I also think that the success the films are having now is a counter-response to the current type of productions, which are cold, brutal and hardcore.'
The Scanbox sets include two series starring Søltoft, 'Bedside' and 'Astrological sign'.
