Goodbye to graffiti

Money set aside to fight noise pollution will instead be used to remove graffiti from railway stations A parliamentary majority has given national railway operator Rail Net Denmark the go-ahead to attack the graffiti smeared across the country’s train station...

The 2010 budget sets aside 9 million kroner for the operator to begin cleaning the spray-painted messages and pictures at Copenhagen’s stations.

Money for cleaning stations in other parts of the country will come out of Rail Net Denmark’s own 85 million kroner pool – most of which was originally set aside for an anti-noise project.

‘Stations don’t look near as nice some places as in others,’ said Johannes Poulsen, transport spokesman for the Social Liberal party.
‘We’re aiming to get rid of graffiti in the places with the most passengers.’

‘If this doesn’t work, then we’ll have to look at what else we can do about it,’ said Poulsen.
