The duo’s song ‘In A Moment Like This’, written by Thomas G:son, Henrik Sethsson and Erik Bernholm, was not considered one of the big favourites of the ten-act competition much to the delight of the group’s manager Stig Ulrichsen.
Their delighted manager had bet 7,500 kroner on the duo to win with their pop hit which many agree emulates massive pop classics like Tina Turner’s The Best and Sting’s Every Breath I Take.
‘I’ve just won 60,000 kroner on them so I’ll probably be buying a round later,’ Ulrichsen said on Saturday night with a smile.
The Danish competition winners are chosen by a mix of jury and public voting and prior to the competition, hot favourite was 18-year-old child star Simone with her rousing ballad How Will I Know.
However, the angelic blond in the white ball gown was not strong enough to secure victory in the semi-final when pitted against the eventual winners.
Chanée sings with a number of Danish bands and Thomas N’evergreen has been an extremely popular singer in Eastern European countries after making his home in Russia six years ago.
Despite her disappointment, Simone and the other competitors who performed in the Aalborg Gigantium Stadium in northern Jutland conceded that the best song won.As for the performers - they’re extremely delighted to have won and N’evergreen believes they can win Eurovision when it’s held in Oslo later this year. He’s hoping that the traditional supporters who often vote for geographical reasons will look to Denmark when picking their winner.
‘I think we have a great chance at winning because they see me as one of their own. I’m popular in Russia and I hope they’ll vote for us,’ he said.
